A member of the sought after ‘Jewel Alocasia’ family, Dragon Scale have some of the most ornate leaf textures in the plant world, sporting deep crevices along the veins, enhanced by shadow-like colouring.
Like other Jewel Alocasias, Dragon Scale has extremely sensitive roots that demand air, but are also intolerant of dry conditions. It’s a good idea to repot into a very light and airy moisture-retentive mix to enable you to water more freely without drowning the roots, whilst ensuring they have access to both the air and the water that they need. I usually have an Alocasia potting mix available that I make specifically for the more sensitive varieties. Keep in very bright indirect light – supplemental grow lights are a good idea in winter – and keep warm at all times, well away from any cold draughts. Ideally you never want to temperature to dip below 16’C
